another option for parents debating filing an affidavit once their child turns 17 is to continue
to file so that the student can take courses at a community college, earning credits toward a Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma. These kids can start taking community college courses at 15, 16, years of age, depending on when the parent and child feels they are ready. By doing this, the student can not only be earning credits toward their
highschool diploma, but could end up with an associate degree, or 2 years of college credits by the time they are 18 years old. There are many
options out there, this is just one. As far as I know, a student cannot take courses at a community
college before they are 18 if they do not have a diploma or GED, unless they are currently enrolled in highschool, thus the advantage of continuing to
file the affidavit, if this is the option the family chooses to pursue. I know Hacc has this rule, i donīt know about other schools.
