If you got the phone calls and e-mails that I do, you would understand why I am down on those who give short-sighted advice advocating having children drop-out at 17 and then giving them a parent-issued diploma.
Just an hour ago I got a phone call from a 23-year-old home education graduate who was just reading her parent-issued diploma for the first time and only just realizing that because of it she couldn´t get into an online college. I urged this 23-year-old to post her problem on this board to get advice from parent-issued diploma advocates. Maybe she will.
You blame the kids; I blame the parents. PHAA is not the only recognized diploma in town. Our standards may be too tough for some kids, but there are other diploma programs designed specifically with lower standards.
