I agree that parents and students must be completely aware of the consequences of not having an official diploma. But they should not be faulted for continuing on this route. Also, in other states there is no such option for homeschoolers.
I would rather see colleges and employers continue to change their attitude towards home education than to see increased burden on homeschoolers to prove the validity of their homeschool programs. There has been a lot of progress made as far as colleges accepting parent issued diplomas. I understand that a parent issued diploma may not seem valid to some people, but having a public school issued diploma is often no guarantee of competence. It would be nice to think that public school graduates could pass the same scrutiny as the PHAA diploma, but I am not so sure.
