I guess I am one of those īlazy and cheapī parents who 4 of my 5 home school graduates have parent-issued or Commonwealth Diplomas! My students so far have been accepted into every university they have applied to, including a first-tier law school where he wrote his personal essay about how his home education prepared him for the rigors of law school! My students have gone to colleges in VA, CO, TN, FL, and PA. Even the University of Pittsburgh did not have an issue with a parent-issued diploma and the student was accepted into honors college there. I think students who have problems with parent-issued diplomas either do poorly on placement tests, SATīs, or have poorly put together documentation (transcripts). Preparing our children for adulthood takes time and effort, one can not afford to be lazy! Also,I do not file for my students who are over 17 since I know we do not qualify for Federal grants and do not need the superintendentīs signature for the PHEAA form. Just my thoughts.
