I live in CV district. I dropped off my own affadavit last fall with no problems, but I didnīt speak to the superintendent; just gave it to a secretary. They sent me one letter reminding me to take my dd to a dentist this year (required for 3rd grade). Then, at the end of the year, they sent me a packet of papers listing all sorts of things that "must" be taught and measured--none of which is required by the law. I ignored it. I turned in my very minimal portfolio (maybe a dozen pages, paperclipped together in a manila envelope) and it was accepted. I havenīt gone back to pick it up yet, but I plan to do so in the next week or so.
The best advice that I have received is to request a copy of the law, with the required parts highlighted, from the superintendent. You want to be sure that you are doing the right thing, and you need the highlighting to help you remember all the important points. Chances are, the things that the school district is demanding arenīt in the law at all. I havenīt had to try it yet, but admit that I am almost gleefully anticipating the look on whoeverīs face when I do.
