As much as I hate to admit this, it may be 10 year old thing, because every 10 year old boy in my circle, including my own, is testing their mom right now.  I am in no way excusing it, but there are many of us who are dealing with uncooperative 10 year olds.

A couple of thoughts I had as I read your post:

1.) Could you give him only a week´s worth of assignments at a time?  For your own sanity have the month planned out, but only give him a small portion.  I know I personally will put off large projects until the last minute if I think I have gobs of time.  One month may be too much for him to process, KWIM.

2.) How involved/supportive is your husband?  A trip to the "principal´s office" has done wonders here.  I will write up a report card and give it to my husband and then he will go over the situation with our son.  Make sure to include areas of improvement as well as areas that need attention.

3.) It sounds like you are being consistent.  It just is a matter of your son realizing that he is only hurting himself.  I sincerely doubt you are raising a future serial killer.

Hugs,

Michelle
