Peter,
Just a couple of thoughts: (1) the PIAA eligibility requirements state, "that the principal of the school is responsible for certifying eligibilty of all students representing your school in interscholastic activities." In districts that have not welcomed homeschoolers, I would expect that we might see hostile attempts at following the new law. Meeting the PIAA requirement seems to be one of the reasons why they have kept their doors closed.
How do you envision this PIAA requirement being met? I´m just trying to understand and I think it is important for us to discuss this here so we can all be better informed representatives if called to the task of helping to create a policy in our respective districts.
(2) Do you think this policy could be abused by public schoolers who are declared ineligible, parents then file an affidavit to homeschool, and one week later the student could resume play as an eligible homeschooler? The PIAA states that you must be passing at least four full-credit subjects or you lose eligibility for the following week. As a former Division II college coach, I saw the great lengths that some families will go to in order to keep their young athletes on the playing field. Perhaps I´m over-reacting with this concern, but it has crossed my mind.
Congratulations on your efforts and the children affected by this most certainly appreciate your work.
