AP English Literature & Composition Reviews for Class Taught by Molly Inspektor
Letters from my students... I was very touched when my mother, Susan Richman, surprised me with a scrapbook of letters from people who have been part of my life-- a gift to celebrate of my recent (and permanent!) move to Israel. One of the biggest surprises was that she had contacted all of my students for their thoughts about this class. With their permission, I'd like to share with you parts of these letters. Their comments deeply moved me and inspire me to live up to such kind words!
Dear Mrs. Inspektor,
... I have enjoyed this class so much, not just for what I have learned, but for the glimpses into your personality that come out in class discussion, or through your updates and responses. As for the class, it has been...invaluable. I can honestly say that this class has been the most rewarding in my high school experience. I have always loved to read, but I had no idea how much I could understand through that quiet pastime. Further I stray from my beloved fantasy books, further into the rich territory of the classics. Yet I go with great relish.
I hope you’ll know that, no matter where you are or how far you go, you’ve made a difference in the way I perceive my world. You’ve given me a gift with no equal: a treasure of knowledge that I will carry with me on my path. In return, I can offer only my appreciation, my gratitude, my thanks, in the hope that you will carry that with you as well.
With fondest regards from your Fantasy Convert,
Sarabeth
Mrs. Inspektor, I love your class. To be honest, I was incredibly nervous before I began, since this was my first course with a REAL teacher and REAL deadlines. :) But, you’ve made it not only easy to understand, you’ve made it fun! You’ve challenged me to push myself harder and pulled out better papers than I knew I could write at the beginning. But you’ve never pushed to the point that I felt inadequate or overwhelmed. You always explain everything thoroughly, and are understanding when I’m falling behind because of wisdom teeth extraction, work, trips, or just being plain lazy. :) Thank you for being such a fabulous teacher! I hope you enjoy your new home and your new life!
Thanks, from Lauren
Mrs. Inspektor - I just wanted to add this little note thanking you for a GREAT class! I started this year off very rough, and I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep up with the coursework. You gave me a second chance, and with your help I was able to catch up, and keep up, in the class! I have learned SO much this year, and I have enjoyed it too! (which doesn’t happen very often for me when schoolwork is concerned) I feel like you have really done your best to prepare us all for the exam, and I know that I feel confident. ...
Thank you for being such a great teacher!
Kevin
Mrs. Inspektor,
Thank you so much for all you have done for us in AP Literature. You have really helped me enjoy literature more. By directing me to look deeper into my readings, you have helped me better understand the complex themes I have come across. The various projects and assignments have made my study of literature both fun and enriching. I especially enjoyed the Hamlet and Wuthering Heights projects. Thank you again for all the time and effort that you put into the class.
Please know that it is greatly appreciated.
Catherine
Hi Mrs. Inspektor,
Thank you for your time and thank you for investing in my future. This course really stretched me and caused me to examine my study skills; to value my time and to ponder my goals. I learned to appreciate writing critically and I gained insight into improving my own writing. I believe that I am a better student after taking this course. I know that I have learned a few tough lessons in your class and I appreciate your constructive critiques of my work as well as my classmates. The book I had to enjoy the most in reading with our class was Frankenstein and I enjoyed reading my fellow classmates poetry and being able to post my own. If your course is a preview of college, I know I’ll be well prepared. Thank you again for providing a challenging academic course; and for being an awesome teacher. Best to you and your husband in your new life in Israel;
I hope to visit the holy land one day and it would be great to meet you.
Shalom, Steven
When I enrolled for AP Literature it was my first “real” literature class, and I have to say I’ve loved it! I now understand the difference that a teacher makes, as Mrs. Inspektor’s class has shown me literature from completely new perspectives. I’ve gained insight into the meaning of books—which I always knew was there, but never could seem to find. I never really cared much for poetry, but through walking through it as a class, I’ve gained an appreciation for a different type of art. Mrs. Inspektor’s AP Literature class really has had an affect on how I view poetry and literature, and I’ll always been grateful for what I’ve learned through her class!

Hi Mrs. Inspektor,
I just wanted to say that your class has been my favorite this year by far, thanks to all your hard work. It’s hard to believe that this is your first year teaching online! You’ve been a great at keeping me interested in all of the books we’re reading, at helping me become a better writer, and especially at helping me with my college applications.
...Thanks again for all of your wonderful teaching; I’ve had a great time and learned a lot (you’ve even got me using semicolons). ...
Good luck in Israel and be safe!
Nathan
Dear Mrs. Inspektor,
I would like to thank you for the wonderful year you have given me and all of my fellow classmates in AP Literature this year. I have had such fun discussing the interesting themes and topics we have covered, interacting with you and the other students, and enjoying all of the books that you assigned us to read.
I have really appreciated your thoughtful responses to my work throughout the year. Even when I knew there wasn’t a single element in my essays worthy of praise or notice, you found something to encourage me about and gave me the feeling that I was progressing. I know I have progressed under your careful, detailed instructions and constructive criticisms. I want you to know how encouraging and helpful it has been to have a teacher that truly cares about her students; how motivating it is when her own enthusiasm for the subject shines through. Thank you for everything you have done for me.
I wish you the best beginning to your new life in Israel, and hope that it will be an exciting adventure as well as a comfortable new home. Good luck! :)
Sincerely,
Jacquelyn
Dear Mrs. Inspektor,
We are most sincerely grateful to you for allowing our daughter Lisa to enter your course a full month after it started. Last September (2007), when we realized our mistake in signing her up for a different online AP English Literature course, I earnestly prayed that God would direct us to a more wholesome, yet still challenging program. In my search, I found the PA Homeschoolers’ website and your course. You were so prompt to answer my inquiries, assuring me that your course met our expectations. We couldn’t be more pleased. In your course, Lisa read interesting and challenging works of literature, wrote a variety of essays, learned how to respond to literature, critiqued other students’ work, received their critiques of her work, collaborated with other students on various projects, felt like she was really part of a class by getting to know all the other students in her class, and, because of all of that, grew as an individual, realizing she can meet the high expectations of an AP course. Whether her AP test score is accepted by the college of her choice or not, we are pleased with what she has accomplished through your expertise and direction.
Thank you so very much. May God direct your steps and keep you in His care.
Mary Ellen
I only met you once, but I feel like I know you way beyond that initial meeting.
We met at the 2007 Pennsylvania Homeschoolers summer High School At Home Conference. I was so impressed by your opening remarks and your ability to so beautifully tie current educational theory and the homeschooling practices that you had lived through and are familiar with together in a practical and down-to-earth way for the homeschooling families in attendance. I also attended the session that you held on tricks for taking the SATs and felt afterward that I wished I were taking those tests again because now I understood! In general, I was taken with your warm, friendly and knowledgeable presence and I thought immediately that you might be a wonderful teacher/connection for my son via the online AP English Literature and Composition course.
I had many questions along the way of enrolling Eric in the course, and you were always there to handle them. Eric has thoroughly enjoyed the class, although this was his first online course and he had many trepidations about taking an online course. ...
Thank you so much for having Eric in your class this year!
With warm and sincere regards,
Sharlene
