AP Comparative Government Reviews of Class Taught by Tom Shaheen

by Students and Parents

I would definitely recommend this course to other students! I just took this course because I was intrigued by studying the governments of other countries. Also, I wanted to learn about government and politics because I knew almost nothing about that subject. I have really learned a lot and enjoyed gaining a better view of the world. However, I would warn other students that it is definitely a challenging course and that it is best suited for students who are interested in learning about this course's subject matter and who are willing to work hard.

I enjoyed the extra readings. It was interesting to read different views about such topics as globalization, and I thought that the AP Briefing Papers were helpful in reinforcing the things we learned about while reading the Kesselman text.

I also enjoyed posting current news about our countries of study. Everyone posting articles helped me keep up with all the current news. In addition, it allowed us students to see concepts and processes we learned about happening in the real world.

My favorite assignments were the ones involving Nigeria and Russia. I found those countries especially interesting.

I thought the essays and tests and your responses on them were very valuable. The essays and essay questions on the tests were challenging and prompted me to really think about the topic and write as well as I could. Your responses also helped me improve my writing on government and politics and helped me make my next essays or responses to essay questions on a test better. The only suggestion that I have is that I would have liked some feedback on my outlines. I thought the outlines were necessary and definitely very helpful for learning and studying for tests, but I was sometimes unsure if my outlines were too detailed or not detailed enough.

Thank you for teaching this course and for your guidance in comparative politics, Mr. Shaheen.

Sincerely, Hannah V. Pawelczyk
