There are complicated rules for when you have to file - if you want to read the details of the pertinent law, you can check the "compulsory school age" page of my web site. Basically, if your child turns 8 later than mid-September-ish (two weeks into a school year), you can wait until the next year to file.
If your daughter has an April birthday, you will need to file for the school year AFTER she turns 8. You can file as early as July 1 (3 months after she turns 8), and you can begin counting your 180 days the day you file.
