Here is a selection from the article by Dorothy Yagodich:

A career in academia seems to be adding up for Laura Wohar, 17, who lives in Brownsville and has attended California Area High School for the past two years. Wohar has been accepted at St. Vincent College, where she will major in math and theology. She plans to become a college professor....

Before enrolling at California, Wohar studied through the Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School based in Midland, where she was a member of the College Honors Academic Mastery Program....

Now this busy teen is co-captain of the Academic League and a member of student council, Student Forum and the Leo Club. She is SADD treasurer and a member of both the Student Advisory Committee and the Model U.N. In addition, she helped to organize the Linus Project for a youth group that prepares blankets for hospitals.

Her interests include music, church and youth group, reading, computers, and organized and recreational sports. Wohar plays volleyball and tennis.

She was assistant stage manager for the recent musical.

"I was so busy with ´Oklahoma!´" she said.

She is always busy as a stage-crew member for high school musicals, but she still finds time to work as a junior reporter and writer for the Burgundian.

She also was chosen Maid of Honor for the May Court.

"We all have such beautiful dresses," she said.

When Wohar finishes high school, she said, she will miss the good friends both here and at her cyber school.

"Educationally and individually, they both have been very good," she said.

Yet she is looking forward to the college atmosphere. "Meeting new people," is a goal, and she is "excited to be learning in interesting classes with really good teachers."

Wohar´s parents are John and Linda Wohar. She has nine siblings.

"Angela is the only one married," she confided. Angela Wohar Danek is 27, John is 26, Amy is 23, Michele is 21, Maria is 19, Nick is 16, Rachel is 13, Elizabeth is 11, and Joshua is 9.

Homeschooling is popular in the family. "People who value family, home school," Wohar said.

Outside of school, Wohar finds time to work at the family chiropractic center in Monessen doing computer data processing, cleaning, filing and maintenance....
