There are 3 dances coming up for homeschooled youths in the greater Harrisburg, PA area. Each is different, (contra, social and square dance,) each has a different host, and a different person to RSVP to. For questions, please contact the same person who is collecting RSVPs. Thanks!
First dance: Family Contra Dance Sunday, August 10th, 3:00 ¡V 5:00 PM Minimum age is 10 years old. Cost: $3/person, with a maximum of $12/family. Location: Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church at 5501 Locust Lane, Harrisburg. RSVP to David Spear at dance@harrisburgcontra.org. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you RSVP if you are planning to attend, to assist them in planning.
This dance is being organized and hosted by the Harrisburg Contra Dance group. They would like to get more young people involved in contra dancing, so are offering this special, one-time, low-cost introduction to contra dancing. There will be a live folk band, and this is definitely geared to complete beginners. Contra dancing is similar to square dancing, but different at the same time. My personal opinion is that it is faster and you have to think (pay attention) a lot more. There¡¦s a lot more twirling! ƒº And you dance in small squares that move up and down a line, instead of squares of 8.

Second dance: Teen Social Dance Sunday, August 17th, 3:00 ¡V 5:00 PM Cost: $5/person, light refreshments are served. Location: Always Time for Dancing studio, State Street Plaza, 829 State Street, Suite 1012, Lemoyne, PA 17043. Mandy¡¦s studio offers a monthly teen social dance, usually on the 3rd Sunday of the month. The first hour is instruction, the second hour is a chance to practice what you learned. Most of the teens arrive as singles, you don¡¦t need to bring a partner. On the 17th the teaching hour will cover Samba and Rumba. They do ballroom and Latin dances, and Mandy¡¦s dances are very popular with homeschoolers. (She also teaches a social dance class at an area co-op.) For more information: http://www.atfdance.com/
Third dance: Family Square Dance Sunday, August 24th, 6:15 ¡V 8:30 PM. (Dancing starts promptly at 6:30.)
Come join other families for an evening of fun and exercise! This is a great chance to meet new friends and have fun with old ones.
WHAT: A Family Square Dance. (Beginners will feel completely comfortable.)
WHO: The dance is designed for families schooling at home. Homeschooling and cyberschooling families are welcome to bring friends who are not schooling-at-home as their guests. We are privileged to have Dan Prosser as our caller, who is well known to the homeschooling community. WHEN: Sunday, August 24th, 2008 from 6:15-8:30 PM WHERE: Monighan Community Center & Fire Hall, 245 W. Siddonsburg Road,Dillsburg, PA 17019. COST: $3 per person or $12 per family, to cover the cost of the hall and a donation to the caller. (A "family" counts as parents and their kids, not uncles, aunts, cousins, neighbors, etc. :-) ) Exact change will be appreciated. AGES: This dance is designed for ages 10 and older. 8 and 9 year old siblings are welcome to attend if they know their right from their left, can follow directions, and behave well in group settings.
REFRESHMENTS: Water, cups, plates and napkins will be provided. Families are encouraged to bring a finger food or drink to share.
RSVP: If you are planning to attend, please RSVP with your name, email address, phone number and head count to Kathy at kathy.ireland@verizon.net. (Having a head count helps in the planning of space, chairs and refreshments, and having your contact info will be handy if something unexpected occurs and we have to cancel and reschedule the event.)
