An article in yesterday´s York (PA) Daily Record tells about the program. Here is a selection:
York County Libraries and PeoplesBank have joined to launch a brand new first-grade membership campaign, Grade One At the Library: Shoot for the GOAL. Our area schools have come on board to help place a library card in the hands of every first-grade child in York County. That´s more than 5,400 youngsters ready to learn how to read....HowardThrough the GOAL campaign, York County Libraries hopes to encourage first-graders´ thirst for reading by introducing them to the abundance of books, programs and computer resources available through free library membership. Library card applications will be sent home to parents through the schools beginning Sept. 16. Parents of home-school and cyberschool students can register their children for the program at their local libraries starting the same day.
First-graders who already have library cards may also participate. Children who sign up for the program will receive a prize the first four times they visit the library this fall. The top prize is the book "Hi! Fly Guy," written and illustrated by Tedd Arnold....

Author Tedd Arnold will appear at the GOAL Campaign Celebration 1:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at the West Manchester Mall.
Kids who receive the book "Hi! Fly Guy" through the campaign can bring their copies along for Arnold to autograph. Additional titles written by Arnold will be available for sale.
FOX-43 personality Skeeta the Clown and storyteller Beth Rebert also will entertain....
