Hi! We are homeschooling my son for the first year, and it has taken me a while to gather the necessary documentation and get it to the school district administration building (they close before I get off work, so it´s been a real challenge). Anyways, I submitted the information today, and the administrator asked what my son has been doing for the past few weeks. I told her he was at home and we were simply reviewing last year´s material before beginning the new (7th grade) curriculum. She insisted that he is truant.
So, I told her that it was my understanding that as long as we meet the 180 days/990 hours requirement, I am complying with the law, and there is plenty of time before the end of the school year to do this. She still says he´s truant.
My question is this: In PA, is there one specific date by which all students must be enrolled in school? Is he really considered truant?
Thanks for any help! I am actually going to meet with her tomorrow about this.
