My children are not experiencing discrimination because of a GED or parent-issued diploma!  The only people who look down on their diploma are home educators from PA!  This is a prejudice that needs to end. A student´s high school diploma and GPA are only important for those first college applications or job interviews.  After that it becomes a non-issue.  No one knows you have a GED/parent-issued diploma.  My son was able to get into the University of Pittsburgh Honor´s College, get scholarships, and was accepted by early admission into a top tier law school with a parent-issued diploma.  My other students have been accepted into every college they have applied.  If we are told misinformation long enough we believe it.  I have children married to home educators from other states and this is not an issue!  If you are in a state where home educators operate under coverings, the coverings issue diplomas.  In other states, state and/or local home school co-ops and associations issue diplomas.  All of these students are accepted and recruited by colleges in every state regardless of their diploma options.  Colleges are searching for home school graduates regardless of what state they are from and regardless of what their state regulations are and regardless of who issued their diploma.  They have learned that home educators WILL educate their children regardless of what the law says because they have chosen to take this responsibility on themselves and not surrender it to the state.  The people not making sure their children are educated are those that think someone else will do it for them!  How many times in your life have you had to tell someone I have a state approved diploma?  I have never and by the way I teach at the community college level!
