German homeschooling family granted asylum in U.S. since homeschooling illegal in Germany ![]()
The above photo is from the Washington Times. It shows the the Romeike family homeschooling their children at their home in Morristown, Tennessee. On January 24, an immigration judge gave that family permission to immigrate into the United States in order to get political asylum, since homeschooling is illegal in Germany. Here is a selection from an article about the historic decision which appeared in yesterday´s The Christian Post: In his ruling, Judge Lawrence O. Burman acknowledged that not every country can be expected to follow the United States’ Constitution. But in the case of the Romeikes, formerly of Bissingen, Germany, Burman said the rights that were being violated were “basic human rights that no country has a right to violate.” “Homeschoolers are a particular social group that the German government is trying to suppress,” the judge stated in his decision, according to the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), which represented the family in their case. Though Germany is a democratic country and a U.S. ally, Burman noted Tuesday that its policy against homeschoolers is “repellent to everything we believe as Americans.” Howard Click here to return to message board

Writing Club ideas-- and a first 'Writing Assignment' I’ve been leading a monthly homeschoolers’ Writing Club for years and years and years—it was a mainstay of our homeschooling program with all four of our kids, and I’ve loved continuing on with a wonderful group of younger homeschoolers since I began ‘empty nesting’ 4 ½ years ago. Why do I love Writing Clubs?? Many reasons…
Welcome to our new online PA Homeschoolers magazine! Welcome to the opening of our newly expanded online PA Homeschoolers magazine! This is a new adventure for us, growing out of our over 25 years of publishing our quarterly print magazine Pennsylvania Homeschoolers. We’re grateful to have you as a reader—and hope you’ll come back daily to read more. And we hope you’ll email your friends to check us out here, too! Why are we transitioning to a fully online magazine? Many reasons—first, we can offer this service for free, as we will no longer have the always escalating printing and mailing and time costs involved with a 32-page print magazine. We all know that most of us are now much more likely to browse about on a website or favorite blog than subscribe to a print magazine—it’s the special...
