Statement of the Principals Association

The Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals recommend the legislature enact a resolution to revisit the home education law....

After 10 years, PAESSP believes that the Legislature needs to re-examine Act 169 and consider whether all children are receiving an appropriate education including sustained progress. Many home schooling children are receiving a quality educational experience in Pennsylvania. However, for others home education is an "easy way out." In addition to accountability, the Legislature needs to examine other home schooling issues including qualifications of private home education tutors, periodic visits by school officials, curriculum reviews, and participation in public school activities.

PAESSP encourages the Legislature to enact a resolution that requires a review of home education law in Pennsylvania and to include in the review process home educators, parents, and school officials.
