This is an information loop for homeschool families in Littlestown, Pa and the surrounding area. The purpose of this group is to share information that is relevant to homeschoolers in the area.

Parent Educators of Adams County (Adams County and surrounding areas) -- contact Craig and Natalie Bishop (c_n79bishop@earthlink.net). Regular meetings and activities, such as unit study co-op days, field trips, annual education and science fairs, and annual field day picnics, are available for both school age and pre-school age homeschoolers. West Shore Christian Educational Co-op (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York Counties) -- contact Brelle Perkins (bperkins@wscec.org). WSCEC is an enrichment co-op for grades K-12. We also offer nursery and preschool. We meet on alternate Wednesdays for 7 sessions in the fall and 7 sessions in the spring for three 55 minute periods each session. Our parents teach a class, assist in a class and have off for a third period; and help in an additional, non-teaching capacity as well. We offer a wide variety of classes from reading, writing and arithmetic to knitting and volleyball. Class options can change each semester. We meet At Christian Life Assembly Church in Camp Hill.

PALS - People Always Learning Somthing (Pittsburgh) -- contact Anita Hagar (director@palsenrichment,org). PALS (People Always Learning Something) is a non- profit organization serving homeschoolers in the Pittsburgh area. PALS provides educational programs and resources for home educators regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or personal lifestyle choices. We strongly value diversity. The Enrichment class prgram offers quality instruction at a reasonable price so that our children can learn and socialize. Berks County

BEACON -- contact Anne Pyne (1pynetree@gmail.com). Beacon is a Christian group that meets the first and third Thursdays for speakers and classes for the students. A parent must stay with his/her child(ren) and help with the group in some way. The goal of the group is to provide additional experiences for the students as well as opportunities for friendships for both the students and parents. S.C.H.E.W.L. -- contact Kendra Dreps (mkdreps@juno.com). Supporting Christian Home Education With Love is a parents-as-teachers support group in Bradford and Tioga Counties. Its goal is to encourage and assist those who have chosen to educate their children at home. Anyone is invited to join. Coordinators and officers accede to a statement of faith. SCHEWL offers a variety of activities planned and executed by its members, such as parent meetings, field trips, fitness activities, and special classes. A promotion ceremony is held at the end of each year. Families belonging to SCHEWL are encouraged in their homeschooling task with prayer, sharing of materials, help in complying with the law, and working with local school districts.

LIGHT Learning is Great Homeschooling Together (Harleysville/Souderton and surrounding area) -- contact Nancy Fenstermacher (fensters@verizon.net). LIGHT is a Christian-based homeschool group for 2nd -12th graders that provides opportunities for homeschool students to interact and establish friendships while participating in organized activities. We meet the second Friday of every month and offer various classes including gym. And we hold a project fair each year. LIGHT also provides a social environment for moms (or dads) to develop relationships and exchange ideas and support. Each registered parent is required to assist in various tasks which enable the program to succeed (i.e.: cleaning, gym support). We require that at least one child is starting 2nd grade and that a copy of an affidavit be provided to the group for each family. Clearfield County

Currently we are a group of about 40 families, with approximately 20 families regularly involved in weekly activities. We have a weekly Friday afternoon gym class from 1-2 at the Bigler YMCA for all ages of students (split into several groups). Each month we focus on a different sport or skill. Also, for six weeks each fall and spring, a content-area co-op class is offered for students. Topics have included science, art, music, and geography in the past, with classes taught by parent volunteers or local professionals in a chosen subject area. Parent meetings are held once a month. Each year we have several field trip opportunities, an opening family picnic, Christmas caroling to a local nursing home, an annual Academic Fair, and a year-end trip to DelGrosso´s Amusement Park. Opportunities are provided several times a year for moms and/or moms & dads to socialize and support one another. Come and join us!

Harrisburg Area Cyberschoolers and Homeschoolers (Harrisburg area) -- contact Kathy Ireland (harrisburgcyberschoolers@verizon.net). This is a secular group of over 100 families consisting of both homeschoolers and cyberschoolers. (Many families have a mixture of both.) We are migrating to the yahoo group "Central_PA_schoolathome", so you may want to start there. Many members are also in the co-op "Central PA Educational Co-op", the only co-op (that we know of) in the Harrisburg area that welcomes families of any religious belief.

At the end of the year we hold our Fine Arts Festival, where the students have the opportunity to perform or present in front of an audience. There is also a display area for such things as art and science projects, reports, and non-speaking presentations. We have God-centered classes in elementary, middle school, and high school, according to the current needs of our families and availability of teachers. There is a nursery class and a pre-school class as well. Our most often scheduled classes are drama, art, and science labs. Other classes are selected during the summer meetings. We have also just completed the forth successful year of our summer drama workshop. It is thrilling to see the love of theater grow in each one of my students. We strive to create a wholesome environment where everyone fits it. The rules are strict and our hard work in evident by our nearly sold out performances. Next year, ´08-´09 the YMCA of Ligonier will offer 2 gym classes. 1:15pm K-2nd grade GYM CLASS(approx.age break down) 2:15pm 3rd-6th grade GYM CLASS(approx. ages) We have scheduled the GetTogether YMCAGYM CLASS to run on the same afternoon to conserve trips to Ligonier. The GetTogether includes Sign Language class each meeting, and then other structured activities (such as Science experiments, group focused activities, and other fun topics that the moms comes up with!) for the kids to socialize, cooperate, and play together.

STEP-UP Enrichment Program at Saint Vincent College -- contact Mrs. Wanda M. Reynolds (wanda.reynolds@email.stvincent.edu). The STEP-UP Enrichment Program began as the Norwin Homeschooling Co-op in the fall of 2002. It later moved the location of its classes to the campus of Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. The Education Department of the college has coordinated the program since the fall of 2006. Enrichment courses (Preschool to Grade 12)are offered on campus for ten weeks every Friday afternoon during the spring and fall semesters. The courses are taught by college students who are enrolled in the teacher certification program. Mrs. Reynolds is the Coordinator of the STEP-UP Program at the college.

We are a group of homeschoolers that get together informally for activities for the kids. Classical Conversations of York - Challenge B (East/Central York) -- contact Kimberly Keene (the4keenes@verizon.net). Classical Conversations is a support for you, the homeschooling parent by providing a tutor who you and your child meet with once/week for a rigorous, college prep set of 6 seminars. Information is introduced and practiced classically in a classroom environment which allows for processing and discussion. At home, the student prepares for the next week under the supervision of his teacher/parent. Sessions are 15 weeks in the fall and 15 in the winter. Classical Conversations is a national organization which is spreading quickly through Pennsylvania. It is comprehensive, having programs for children 4 - HS in an integrated, classical program.
