PALS Enrichment Programs (PEP) is a non-profit organization serving homeschoolers in the Pittsburgh area. S.C.H.E.W.L. -- contact Kendra Dreps (mkdreps@juno.com). Supporting Christian Home Education With Love is a parents-as-teachers support group in Bradford and Tioga Counties. Its goal is to encourage and assist those who have chosen to educate their children at home. Anyone is invited to join. Coordinators and officers accede to a statement of faith. SCHEWL offers a variety of activities planned and executed by its members, such as parent meetings, field trips, fitness activities, and special classes. A promotion ceremony is held at the end of each year. Families belonging to SCHEWL are encouraged in their homeschooling task with prayer, sharing of materials, help in complying with the law, and working with local school districts.

HomeschoolHappeningsPA -- contact Sue Miller (SLMSUSAN@JUNO.COM). We are a Christian homeschool group based in Emmaus, primarily serving Lehigh and Northampton counties. All ages are welcome, but most of our children are over age ten with a larger concentration being pre-teens and teens. Enrichment classes and diploma meetings are geared towards PA ACT 169 homeschooling. However, all methods of educating our children are used. Our goal is to support one another, provide each other with information about homeschooling, and to provide activities for our children and our moms. Some of the things we offer are monthly bowling, park days in season, field trips, diploma programs moms’ meetings, and enrichment classes. We are the main means of distributing information for Generation Joshua of the Lehigh Valley, the local Gen J club. We will not promote activities that are of a questionable nature or may be a stumbling block to fellow Christians. Sharing devotional material, prayer requests and concerns are encouraged. There are various groups with many secular activities available and we also have some of our own, however, we will strive to provide additional Christian alternatives. No, we do not require a signed statement of faith. However, before you join the group seriously consider if it will meet your needs and that you will be a blessing to others by actively participating.

Clearfield County

Currently we are a group of about 40 families, with approximately 20 families regularly involved in weekly activities. We have a weekly Friday afternoon gym class from 1-2 at the Bigler YMCA for all ages of students (split into several groups). Each month we focus on a different sport or skill. Also, for six weeks each fall and spring, a content-area co-op class is offered for students. Topics have included science, art, music, and geography in the past, with classes taught by parent volunteers or local professionals in a chosen subject area. Parent meetings are held once a month. Each year we have several field trip opportunities, an opening family picnic, Christmas caroling to a local nursing home, an annual Academic Fair, and a year-end trip to DelGrosso´s Amusement Park. Opportunities are provided several times a year for moms and/or moms & dads to socialize and support one another. Come and join us!

We do classes in elementary, middle school, and high school, according to the current needs of our families and availability of teachers. There is a nursery class, and a pre-school class is added when needed. During the course of each regular session there is a worship time for the students and a prayer time for the parents. Every family is expected to have one attending parent every time we meet, and all parents are expected to either lead teach, assist teach, or take a leadership role in the co-op. For the past few years we have had a drama club which gives a public performance in May and we plan to continue that tradition. In spring of 2007 we also began a debate club which focuses on policy debate. Optional field trips and service projects round out our program, along with an annual Safety Day.

There are homeschooling groups in the Poconos but none for people of color so I decided to start one. Although, groups from the Metro area are invited to join, you will have to travel for our functions if you wish to attend. Currently, a Black Homeschoolers Picnic is being scheduled for the summer 2004 and an African American Homeschoolers Conference for summer 2005.

Homeschooling Together (Harleysville/Souderton/Perkasie/Sellersville and surrounding areas) -- L.I.G.H.T. is a Christian-based homeschool group looking to provide opportunities for homeschool children and their parents to interact and establish friendships, as well as participate in organized activities and classes. We require that at least one child is in first grade and that a copy of an affidavit be provided to the group for each family. We meet once a month, offer various classes and have a gym time together. We also have field trips and a project fair each year. Blue Mountain Christian Homeschoolers (BMCH) is made up of homeschooling families throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley. An informal secular group of homeschooolers from Philadelphia and the surrounding communities in Montgomery County. We meet at the Water Tower Recreation Center on Hartwell Lane (2 blocks east of Germantown Avenue) in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia every Friday afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. During inclement weather we play in the gymnasium; otherwise, we can be found outside. Homeschooled kids have an opportunity for unstructured, peaceful, free play while parents provide one another support, network and exchange resources and information. We get together to socialize and learn with other homeschooling families. Next year, ´08-´09 the YMCA of Ligonier will offer 2 gym classes. 1:15pm K-2nd grade GYM CLASS(approx.age break down) 2:15pm 3rd-6th grade GYM CLASS(approx. ages) We have scheduled the GetTogether YMCAGYM CLASS to run on the same afternoon to conserve trips to Ligonier. The GetTogether includes Sign Language class each meeting, and then other structured activities (such as Science experiments, group focused activities, and other fun topics that the moms comes up with!) for the kids to socialize, cooperate, and play together.

STEP-UP Enrichment Program at Saint Vincent College -- contact Mrs. Wanda M. Reynolds (wanda.reynolds@email.stvincent.edu). The STEP-UP Enrichment Program began as the Norwin Homeschooling Co-op in the fall of 2002. It later moved the location of its classes to the campus of Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. The Education Department of the college has coordinated the program since the fall of 2006. Enrichment courses (Preschool to Grade 12)are offered on campus for ten weeks every Friday afternoon during the spring and fall semesters. The courses are taught by college students who are enrolled in the teacher certification program. Mrs. Reynolds is the Coordinator of the STEP-UP Program at the college.

We are a group of homeschoolers that get together informally for activities for the kids. West Shore Christian Educational Co-op (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, York Co) -- contact Jennifer Lebo (farmboysmomma@aol.com). WSCEC is an enrichment co-op for grades K-12. We also offer nursery and preschool. We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month for 7 sessions in the fall and 7 sessions in the spring for three 55 minute periods each session. Our parents teach a class, help in a class and have off for a third period. We offer a wide variety of classes from reading, writing and arithmetic to knitting and volleyball.
